Contained within the lacquer case is a small carving of a standing buddha in welcoming pose. \u003cbr\u003e\u003cbr\u003ePortable shrines like this were often used in the house, but being small could be taken from place to place. \u003cbr\u003e\u003cbr\u003eThe lacquer case in good condition with minor losses, a few chips here and there.\u003cbr\u003e \u003cbr\u003eThe gilt interior is nicely aged. The buddha itself, is missing its hands. \u003cbr\u003e\u003cbr\u003eWhen I found this Zushi in Kyoto it had some problems which I have gently restored. The figure itself was not attached to the base. I have cleaned the old glue off, and inserted a bamboo pin to hold the figure securely in place before reglueing. \u003cbr\u003e\u003cbr\u003eThe figure was also missing its right foot. This has been re-carved, gilded and aged to match. I decided to leave the hands missing as I think this contributes to the subtle beauty and age of the piece. Replacing the foot was a practical choice to help with stabilising the figure on the base. \u003cbr\u003e\u003cbr\u003eThe left door can be a little tricky to close, the latch doesn't quite close all the way.
