From this oversized hook a rope hangs down to another metal hook from which a tea kettle and other cooking pots can be hung. The additional hook that hangs down can be adjusted in height.

Often these are in a couple of traditional styles, I cant say I have seen one like this before that is so square. Because it is square it sits perfectly well on a shelf.

Often overlooked as just parts of daily country life, Jizai Kagi are now viewed as pieces of Mingei (Folk) Art and collected. They are fantastically sculptural.

This is a smaller example likely dating to the start of the 20th Century.
In good condition, there are some age cracks that can be seen in the top of the hook, but these are stable. The deep grooves caused by years of the rope sliding over the hook are particularly nice.

Measures 12.5cm wide x 10cm deep x 23cm tall.

Found in Kyoto.

//cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/0843/2399/1857/files/Vintage_Japanese_Jizai_Kagi_Square_Hook-5.jpg?v=1792320194
