So in this day and age where smoking is much less common, this could be returned to its traditional origins and used to hold implements for incense! \u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eThis Tabako-bon features a lift off top lid and a square copper burner box which would have been filled with ash. A hot coal would have been placed on the ash to light a pipe. \u003cbr\u003e\u003cbr\u003eThe top compartment perfectly fits a lighter and short stick incense. The bottom drawer is a good size for storing longer stick incense and other items. \u003cbr\u003e\u003cbr\u003eWhat I find most interesting about this box is that it appears to be made from recycled storage boxes, at least partially. \u003cbr\u003eTraditionally many objects in Japan were sold in fine quality Kiri boxes, the lids of which would often feature an inscription about the maker and the piece contained within the box.  \u003cbr\u003eLooking inside this box with the drawer removed we can see a box lid has been used.
