Inspired by our love of Japan, we curate a selection of products that speak to minimal Japanese aesthetics and the joy of everyday rituals.

'Kanso' is one of the seven principles of the zen philosophy which allows wabi-sabi, a state of awareness of the imperfection and impermanence of things, to be attained.Β

Our products are well designed, made in a variety of textures and foster connection and creativity.

Owners Daniel Hourigan and Candice McGaw-Hourigan have a shared passion for travel, design and the power of beautiful objects to make life more meaningful and interesting.

Most of our products are sourced directly from Japan, but we also like to include products from other countries that we believe fit the Wabi Sabi aesthetic we love.

Kanso House is based on the Mornington Peninsula, Victoria.

SOURCING PRODUCTS

Adventure + intent

We source products in a variety of ways; from visiting markets and trusted antique dealers in Japan, to Japanese trade fairs and directly through contemporary makers, kilns and long running traditional businesses.
