Antique Bizen ware Tanuki Koro or incense burner.
Depicting a female tanuki, a Japanese Racoon Dog. Tanuki have a long folk history in Japan, often depicted as mischievous supernatural creatures that have the ability to shape shift.
This Bizen ware Incense Burner has a stamped signature on its back. It bares the signs of many years of use. The soot could be cleaned off, but as this shows its patina and authenticity we like to leave it as is.
Could also be used as a small vase.
