Characterful Antique Daikoku sculpture.
Early 20th Century.
Daikoku is the god of fortune and wealth in Japan. This carving is done in the Ittobori style, which is done using just one knife.
Often pieces carved in this way are faceted and angular which creates this interesting reduced and simplified form.
Carved from Sugi wood.
Measures 9cm tall x 6cm across.
