Antique Japanese Farmers Shoiko Backpack
Antique Japanese Farmers Shoiko Backpack
Antique 19th Century Japanese Shoiko Farmers Backpack used for carrying heavy loads.
Made from wood and woven hemp rope.
Shoiko Backpacks were used by farmers in Japan to help support the carrying of heavy weights.
Items of this nature in Japan are referred to as "Mingei" or Folk Art. They are desired for evoking traditional life in Japan. They are not mass made and the hand of the maker is evident.
Whilst you could probably still use this item to carry a backbreaking load of straw, we prefer to hang these unique pieces on the wall. Treat them as art,
