Beautiful small sake or espresso cup.
As with many of Don's Ceramic cups this is made using the Kurinuki technique which means to carve out the shape of the cup from a block of clay, as opposed to throwing it on a wheel or other methods of pottery production.
This method creates a striking dynamic form which feels amazing to hold.
Featuring a dark clay body with a thin white glaze.
Can be used for sake, tea or coffee. We like to use small cups like this for our espresso's. It really elevates the experience to drink from something so beautiful.

Craft and Philosophy
Don Ricardo’s ceramics embody the philosophy of wabi-sabi finding beauty in imperfection and the passage of time. Each piece is shaped with an intuitive approach, allowing the clay to guide the process rather than imposing rigid control. His work reflects a deep appreciation for natural textures, asymmetry, and the organic evolution of form.

Materials and Technique
Sourcing local wild clay and crafting his own tools, Don’s practice is deeply rooted in self-sufficiency and authenticity. His signature glazes, particularly the striking Oribe green and rich ash finishes, create surfaces that shift and reveal depth with each firing. These elements make every vessel a unique, living expression of the raw materials that shaped it.

A Connection to Tradition
Inspired by his travels to Japan, Don’s work draws from centuries-old ceramic traditions while remaining distinctly his own. His pieces are meant to be used and appreciated in everyday life, whether as functional vessels or sculptural objects, fostering a direct connection between maker and user.

from 12 reviewsBeautiful Japanese calligraphy box! Thank you 😊

We've had our Hinoki stool for a couple of months now and it still brings a lovely cypress smell to the bathroom. It's the perfect size to sit on and dries fully overnight, no issues with dampness. It's lovely craftmanship and well worth the money.

Absolutley adore this item and equally adore Kanso House . Will be watching closely and purchasing more from
this lovley family run business on the Mornington Peninsual

This lovely family owned business on the Mornington Peninsula is highly knowledgeable on all things Japan and is of the highest standard . Purchased a wonderful Tobako Bon (Tobacco Box) recently and adore it . From initial enquiry to delivery I couldn't have been happier . Hats off to all at Kanso House . Will come and visit one day .

The stool arrived promptly and I was happy with the quality.

I love my kyōtō andon solar lantern!
I was a student in Japan way back in 1976, and the inclusion of this lantern amongst the strappy green leaves of my intimate, meditative rear garden make me nostalgic for those halcyon days. The lantern oozes beauty, simplicity and the blending of traditional and contemporary sensibilities of Japanese design. I appreciate Daniel and Candice's keen eye for sophisticated and practical aesthetic. I'll be trawling through their generously stocked products for my next indulgent purchase ...

Beautiful wares and speedy delivery. Very very happy

So happy with these spoons, definitely worth it

Great pottery dishes, very happy with them!

Absolutely love this chopping board, super functional being double sided, easy to clean, stands upright and stacks well with smaller sizes. Loved it so much I bought the smaller size too!
Thanks for bringing beautiful, functional Japanese wears to the Mornington Peninsula 🙌🏻

I love this platter!!! It is everything I could have hoped for. Thank you to Kansa House for their excellent customer service in allowing me to pick it up at their next pop up shop. They are lovely people.
